Why the doublet was invented
In the late Middle Ages, fashion changed dramatically. When separate hose were sewn together into tight trousers (“joint hose”), a belt was no longer enough to keep everything in place. The solution was the doublet.
A proper doublet is fitted and constructed with reinforced eyelets at the waist (so?called points) where you tie your hose. The result is both practical and stylish: your legwear sits perfectly without slipping, and you get the characteristic athletic 1400s silhouette.
